The Fellowship

Since I was part of the LCBA, we were tasked to attend the Christmas fellowship with partner schools and partner barangays of our school. We were in-charge of the games and the giving-out of prizes. It was really fun to share what we have and make other people happy. The over-all activity was fun since there were games and talent portion. I saw smiles on their faces when they received gifts from us. And so I was touched because they appreciated our efforts.

Break.!

After taking the exams yesterday, we had our Christmas party. Yey! We were all excited to know who our SP's were. Thrilling, right? My mother in our CAE play, was the one who had an SP on me. And I don't even know something about it. And so I was really shocked at the same time surprised. Our Christmas party was just short because our teachers will stiil attend the Fellowship. But even though it was short, I really enjoyed it. It was fun to be with my classmates and even more fun to receive gifts.

Relieved...

Yes! We are all done! Done of what? Well, done in taking our tests. It was a relief for me because imagine, I was having a hard time preparing for these things which even made me tired. And so thank God, It's all over!

Torture!

The week after a boring week, we had a week herein we will be having tests. What? Isn't this a torture? It truly is! we have no choice but rather take it. So, I was busy studying to prepare myself. Besides our mastery tests and exams, we also need to pass our projects. And so I kept on complaining and even said, "This is really torturing me!"

A Boring Week

Right after the play, we returned to our normal routine in school. It was totally a boring week because all the time we were sitting in our chairs and listen to the teacher's discussion. Oh, life. I even missed the days when we used to practice for our play presentations. But then what can I do? This is really what life is all about. That week, we were preparing for next week's mastery tests and eventually our exams. That was really boring. But then this is for our own good. Who would benefit from these things but only us.

Learnings

With this month's activity, I have learned a lot of things. The play itself didn't only taught us to be good actresses but also taught us values. We practiced the value of simplicity when we used what we had to help in our play. The value of trust was even practiced when we relied our presentation to our own selves and encouraged ourselves to do our best because we all know that we can do it. There's still a lot more of values that we had manifested during this momentous activity.I hope next year, we would still practice these things and hopefully we would learn more values.

The Invention f Velcro

One lovely summer day in 1948, a Swiss amateur-mountaineer and inventor decided to take his dog for a nature hike. The man and his faithful companion both returned home covered with burrs, the plant seed-sacs that cling to animal fur in order to travel to fertile new planting grounds. The man neglected his matted dog, and with a burning curiosity ran to his microscope and inspected one of the many burrs stuck to his pants. He saw all the small hooks that enabled the seed-bearing burr to cling so viciously to the tiny loops in the fabric of his pants. George de Mestral raised his head from the microscope and smiled thinking, "I will design a unique, two-sided fastener, one side with stiff hooks like the burrs and the other side with soft loops like the fabric of my pants. I will call my invention 'velcro' a combination of the word velour and crochet. It will rival the zipper in its ability to fasten."

Mestral's idea met with resistance and even laughter, but the inventor 'stuck' by his invention. Together with a weaver from a textile plant in France, Mestal perfected his hook and loop fastener. By trial and error, he realized that nylon when sewn under infrared light, formed tough hooks for the burr side of the fastener. This finished the design, patented in 1955. The inventor formed Velcro Industries to manufacture his invention. Mestral was selling over sixty million yards of Velcro per year. Today it is a multi-million dollar industry.

Not bad for an invention based on Mother Nature.

Do you know who invented the cat flap?

A cat flap or cat door is a hinged flap set into a door, wall or window to allow cats to enter and exit a house on their own without needing a human to open the door, while offering a degree of protection against wind and rain entering the dwelling.

The invention of the cat flap is attributed to Isaac Newton in a story by a 'Country Parson' to the effect that Newton foolishly made a large hole for the mother and a small one for the kittens, not realizing the kittens would follow the mother through the large one.Two Newton biographers cite passages saying that Newton kept 'neither cat nor dog in his chamber J. M. F. Wright, writing in his memoir Alma Mater in 1827, was an inhabitant of Newton's 'set' in Trinity and reported this same story, adding "Whether this account be true or false, indisputably true is it that there are in the door to this day two plugged holes of the proper dimensions for the respective egresses of cat and kitten."

Lotus Feet

CHECK THIS OUT!

Foot binding was a custom practiced on young girls and women for approximately one thousand years in China, beginning in the 10th century and ending in the first half of 20th century.
Foot-binding resulted in lifelong disabilities for most of its victims. As the practice waned in the early 20th century, "some girls' feet were released after initial binding, leaving less severe deformities," according to a study conducted by the University of California, San Francisco. However, some effects of foot-binding were permanent, especially if a girl's arches or toes had been broken or other drastic measures taken in order to achieve the desired smallness. In the 1990s and early 2000s, some elderly Chinese women still suffered from disabilities related to bound feet.

Arroyo and Sukarnoputri Share Similarities

Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of the Philippines and Megawati Sukarnoputri of Indonesia have remarkable similarities. Both are 54-year-old women who had been vice-presidents before becoming presidents in place of their predecessors who were ousted in the year 2001. Both of them were daughters of former presidents of the world's two largest archipelagos who lost the presidency in 1965 to dictators. Both women have three children and their husbands were being pursued by controversy. Both visited Washington in their first year as presidents and met US President George W. Bush, another offspring of a former president who also assumed power in 2001. Arroyo and Sukarnoputri are not entirely similar though. The former is a Catholic Christian from the world's fifth largest Christian country while the latter is a Muslim from the country with the world's largest Muslim population.

World's 4th Most Accident-Prone Country

According to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the Philippines was the fourth most accident prone country in the world. The two institutions arrived at this conclusion after finding out that some 5,809,986 Filipinos were killed or injured as a result of disasters or man-made calamities over a ten-year period (1992-2001).

If not for its smaller population, the Philippines could have been the world's second most accident-prone country after Iran. Because of its large population, China topped the accident list, with 97,783,301 of its citizens affected by accidents during the ten-year period. It was followed by India, which reported 46,060,125 victims during the period. Both China and India have a population of over 1 billion people. Iran was third in the list, with 6,416,570 victims. Behind the Philippines were Ethiopia, with 3,334,266 victims; and Pakistan, 2,732,032 victims. The global report by International Red Cross said 535,416 people were killed in natural disasters and 86,947 others in industrial, transport and other "technological disasters" worldwide from 1992 to 2001.

According to the Philippine Red Cross, 31,835 Filipinos were killed and 94,369,462 others were affected by natural disasters and calamities in a span of 20 years. "The Philippines was a natural laboratory for floods, typhoons, monsoon rains, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and landslides," Philippine National Red Cross governor Dante Liban said. Randomly..

We're the king and queen of hearts
Tell me when the music starts
all my dreams come true
when I dance with you...

Did I dream that we danced forever
in a wish that we made together
on a night that i prayed would never end. ohhh..
you know it's not my imagination
or a part of the orchestration
love was here at the coronation

I'm the king and you're the queen of hearts..

This was the song that went out of my mouth this morning during our computer class while doing an activity.
I don't know why I sang this song. Maybe there is a meaning that I need to figure out.
But I hope that time won't be now because I'm still busy. :-)

A Film to Remember

We are very lucky yesterday because... we didn't have afternoon classes.
Yehey!

There was this activity for all High School students together with grade 6 boys and girls yesterday which was the reason why most of us were in an excited mood.
We were invited to watch a film entitled the 13th day at SM city.
This film was mainly about the experience of the 3 kids- Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta wherein to these same persons our Lady of Fatima appeared to.
In my own perspective, they were lucky enough to have seen the image of virgin Mary and be an instrument of God's salvation..

Honestly, I envied these kids because of all people, why them?
After watchinf the said film, I came to realize that they were the chosen ones because it is in each of them that God have seen a perfect personality.
I am very lucky to have watched that particular movie because in the end it left a mark that could never be erased, I think so.

If I will only be like them- in time may, it may be now or tommorrow or even next year, an image will also appear to me if I but change my ways and follow their footsteps.

Examinations

I was so surprised when my classmates told me that our 2nd quarter exams would be next week.
And so this means that I should start studying. What?
The world is really full of problems. The best thing to do is to be PREPARED.

Another problem

Oh No!!
I thought I will not anymore spend my free time memorizing.
But what is this that I heard, start memorizing the desiderata.
So, this means another burden to be brought up?

Who could possibly help me? In fact this is one of our projects.
No choice but just simply follow it.

Oh Lord, please send your guardian angel to guide me down here. And let her alwasy be by my side to keep on reminding me not to be lazy.

My Talumpati

Isinilang tayong hubo't hubad. Ibig sabihin pantay-pantay tayo sa mga mata ng Diyos....

Here I go again. Recalling my talumpati piece. Well, I can't stand it. Maybe because I am used to memorizing it every hour of everyday.

Now, I don't even bother to memorize it because I am done memorizing it. Besides, I am even done presenting it. And so it maens that my burdens will now decrease.

Taize' Experience

It was really, really trying.... Most of us would say.
For almost 12 hours we didn't sleep.

Last Fridays experience thrilled me a lot because that was my first time to involve myself in the taize' prayer vigil. I thought all the while that all the time we would pray but that thought was wrong. It was a combination of prayer at the same time activities that I enjoyed the most. We were grouped together through the help of the symbols in our name tags which made me feel sad because I'm not together with my friends. Yet this sadness come to make me realize the friendship that I could find with my group mates. I made new friends with different persons that I spent time during this activity. Now, I realized that it's not that hard to make friends. You just need to be confident in approaching others.

Taize' Experience (Part 2)

This is the continuation of my experiences during a momentous activity.

It was indeed a great experience to remember. Most of my classmates told me that taize' help them to build new friendship with other people. They also told me that even though it was tiring but they still enjoyed singing, dancing at the same time praying. When the prayer time begin most of us would complain because we were already tired. Yet we enjoyed being with our group mates and sharing with them about each and everyone's experiences.
